Alexander Barfield Esq. DL

Appointed 2025

Alexander (Alex) was fostered in Maidenhead, then adopted in Wokingham, and has lived his entire life in Berkshire

Alex went to the Emmbrook School in Wokingham, leaving at the age of 17 and went straight into full time employment. He has worked for Waitrose, Heathrow and in the voluntary sector.

Alex has been involved in the voluntary sector in Berkshire for over 12 years, managing a charitable trust and undertaking many voluntary roles. Alex was a trustee of Berkshire Community Foundation from 2016-2023, as a member of the Grants Committee and Chair of the Philanthropy Committee, as well as sitting on the main board. He has been an active member of the Waltham St Lawrence Village Show since 2015, acting as secretary for 3 of those years, and has been Vice-Chair of Twyford Together since 2014. He volunteers at local adoption support groups and helps raise funds for various charities, including MacMillan Cancer Support and Parents and Children Together.

He is passionate about the voluntary sector and recognises its essential role in our society. He has a particular interest in working with those in care, care leavers and their families. He is always inspired by those who give their time to help others, often quietly and without reward.

Alex enjoys playing the piano, gardening, flying, skiing, meeting people and volunteering.

Alex was appointed as High Sheriff of the Royal County of Berkshire for 2024-2025, being the youngest High Sheriff in the Country for that year.
