Together at Christmas

The Lord-Lieutenant of the Royal County of Berkshire and Mary Hare School hosted a very special Together at Christmas Community Carol Service, bringing together more than 200 guests to celebrate kindness, compassion and service to others.

Supported by The Royal Foundation, Together at Christmas is an annual initiative led by Her Royal Highness The Princess of Wales to recognise and thank those who act with love in their communities. This service was one of 15 taking place across the country in the days leading up to Christmas.

Mary Hare School is the largest residential school for deaf children and young people in the UK, welcoming pupils from Reception through to Sixth Form from across the country. Its specialist approach focuses on language acquisition and literacy, enabling students to access the full national curriculum with the support of subject specialist Teachers of the Deaf and a wide range of tailored support.

The evening featured performances by pupils from across the school – all profoundly deaf, and some with additional needs – showcasing their remarkable talents. Guests drawn from the school community, charities and volunteering organisations across Berkshire enjoyed a programme of traditional carols, including student solos, audience participation, and a dance performance, all accompanied by music provided by the students themselves.

It was a deeply moving and uplifting occasion, and a powerful reminder of the talent, confidence and potential of the young people of Mary Hare School.
