Across Berkshire, communities came together this weekend and on Armistice Day to honour those who gave their lives in service to our nation. The Lord-Lieutenant, Mr Andrew Try, was represented at ceremonies across the county, reflecting the depth and continuity of remembrance that unites us all.
On Remembrance Sunday, the Lord-Lieutenant attended the Civic Service of Remembrance at Reading Minster of St Mary the Virgin, before joining civic leaders and veterans for the parade to the Forbury Gardens War Memorial, where wreaths were laid in tribute. Similar acts of remembrance took place across the county, with Deputy Lieutenants representing the Lieutenancy at services in Bracknell, Wokingham, Thatcham and Windsor.
This morning, on Armistice Day, the Lord-Lieutenant was represented at Reading Station for “Poppies to Paddington” – a moving act of remembrance across the Great Western Railway network, and at a service organised by the Trooper Potts VC Memorial Trust.
From town squares to railway platforms, Berkshire’s communities once again demonstrated the enduring spirit of remembrance and gratitude that binds the Royal County together.
Lest we forget.
