Bracknell remembers VJ Day – 80 years on

The Royal British Legion Bracknell Branch hosted a moving commemorative event at the Bracknell War Memorial, The Angel, to mark the 80th anniversary of Victory over Japan Day.

The event brought together the local community in remembrance of those who served in the Far East campaign of the Second World War and in thanksgiving for peace. The ceremony included a wreath-laying at the memorial, a two-minute silence, the playing of the Last Post, and a parade led by a piper, all combining to create a poignant and dignified occasion of reflection.

Lt Col Sir Alexander Matheson LVO DL was honoured to attend on behalf of His Majesty’s Lord-Lieutenant of the Royal County of Berkshire, Mr Andrew Try. Sir Alexander laid a wreath and conveyed the Lieutenancy’s support and gratitude on this important anniversary.

The Berkshire Lieutenancy is proud to support the Royal British Legion Bracknell Branch in honouring this significant milestone, which serves as a reminder of the courage and sacrifice of all those who served in the Far East and of the importance of ensuring their legacy is remembered for generations to come.
