Miss Alka Kharbanda DL
Alka was born in India and moved to England in the late 1960s when her parents immigrated to Slough. She has lived in Berkshire ever since.
Alka has practised as a solicitor for 35 years and has served as Managing Partner and Chief Operating Officer during her practice, as well as being part of the Management Board for most of the 35 years. Her early work with victims of domestic violence led to her becoming involved with women’s groups. She was part of a management committee which founded a refuge for victims of domestic violence in the County.
For many years she was a volunteer for the Citizens Advice Bureau in Berkshire, as well as Hertfordshire and Buckinghamshire.
Alka is a former High Sheriff of the County (2022-2023). During her year she championed the importance of education. Since then, she has attended schools to give talks to schoolchildren on the importance of education and is involved with educational charities.
