Simon Carter Esq. DL
Simon Carter works in the outdoor event sector running a marquee hire business.
He was Managing Director of the family business, Carter & Son (Thatcham) Ltd until it closed in 2019. The company had a retail shop selling snow and mountain sports equipment and a factory producing industrial textiles such as marquees and tarpaulins. Established for nearly 190 years the company had been based in Reading since 1919.
He sits on the Committee for The Museum of English Rural Life (MERL). MERL is the national museum of agriculture and is situated on the London Road campus of the University of Reading.
He completed an MBA in 1999 at the University of Warwick Business School and now volunteers as a mentor supporting MBA students.
He is chair of The Heart of Streatley Charitable Trust, established to look after a small piece of Berkshire chalk downland.
He was involved for many years with the Newbury and District Agricultural Society, an educational charity promoting agriculture and the countryside to all ages; served as Shows Chairman; a trustee for ten years, chairing The Board for four years. He was a founder director and trustee of the biennial Goring & Streatley Arts Festival. The Festival promotes art and science in the area.
He has been extensively involved in supporting other charitable and sporting organisations over a long period.
