The Lord-Lieutenant of Berkshire, Mr Andrew Try, attended the annual High Sheriff’s Judicial Service at Reading Minster Church of St Mary the Virgin.
The service, hosted by the High Sheriff of Berkshire, Ren Kapur MBE, marked the ceremonial opening of the Legal Year. The Lord-Lieutenant joined members of the judiciary, visiting High Sheriffs and civic dignitaries in a formal procession to Reading Minster, where they were joined by representatives of the legal profession, police, emergency services, charities and community organisations from across the county.
Led by the Bishop of Reading, the Rt Revd Mary Gregory, the service included readings, prayers and reflections on justice, compassion and service to others. Musical contributions from the Military Wives Choirs provided a particularly memorable element of the occasion, reflecting the close connections between Berkshire’s civic and Armed Forces communities.
The annual Judicial Service is an important occasion in Berkshire’s civic calendar, recognising not only those who uphold the rule of law and administer justice, but also the many volunteers, charities and community organisations whose often-unsung contributions make such a difference to life across the county.
Following the service, guests attended a reception hosted by the High Sheriff, bringing together representatives from Berkshire’s public, charitable and business sectors. The reception provided an opportunity to strengthen existing relationships, forge new connections and explore opportunities for collaboration in support of communities across the county.
Funds were also raised in support of Together As One, Reading Minster and the Military Wives Choirs.
