The Lord Lieutenant of the Royal County of Berkshire presided over the Swearing In of the new High Sheriff for 2024 – 2025, Mr Alexander Barfield on Friday 5 April at Reading Crown Court.
Alexander takes over the role from Simon Muir. The office of High Sheriff is the oldest secular office in the United Kingdom, after the Crown, and dates back to Saxon times. The High Sheriff is The King’s representative for Law and Order in the County. This involves the organising of such events as the Ceremonial Service for the Opening of the Judicial Year. The position is unpaid.
More details on Alexander and the role of the High Sheriff can be found on the Berkshire High Sheriff website.
