To mark the 80th anniversary of Victory in Europe (VE) Day, the Lord-Lieutenant of the Royal County of Berkshire, Mr Andrew Try, and a number of Deputy Lieutenants attended a wide range of commemorative events across the Royal County.
From beacon lighting ceremonies and afternoon tea parties to church services and community gatherings, residents of all ages came together to honour those who served during the Second World War and to reflect on the significance of VE Day in securing peace in Europe.
The Lieutenancy was proud to represent His Majesty The King at these commemorations and to support the Royal County in remembering a defining moment in modern history. The 80th anniversary of VE Day provided a timely opportunity to reflect on the legacy of those who fought for freedom, and to ensure that their service and sacrifice are never forgotten.
